Teacher education students
completed these mini-units as part of a course entitled "Teaching
Social Studies." Each student was assigned a topic related to
celebrations to research and develop. The following big
understandings were adopted to span the variety of mini-units that
were developed.
Big Understandings -
Celebrations
- Celebrations reflect values that are important
in a given culture.
- There are many different types of
celebrations.
- Individuals and groups celebrate for many
different reasons.
- Special food, clothes, music, symbols, and
events may be associated with various celebrations.
